35 Smart Choices

Bring out the best in yourself and your team through powerful decisions about when, where and how you work

You have more choices about the way you work than you probably realise …

  • When and where do you tackle different tasks?
  • What work tools and technologies do you use?
  • How do you run your meetings and collaborate with your team?
  • Where do you go and what do you do during your break time?
  • How do you deal with distractions and negative emotions?
  • Where do you look for motivation and inspiration?
  • How do you stay connected to your teammates when working from home?
  • And the ‘big question’: Do you keep your desk tidy or leave it messy?

As the world is changing at a head-spinning pace, it’s more important than ever that you approach work intelligently. While the wrong choices can send you down rabbit holes, the right ones help you find your groove and overcome challenges with ease.

This is not another book about getting organised, tackling to-do lists or managing time.

35 Smart Choices is your guide to exploring your unique work style and discovering how you can make the most of your talent by working smarter, not harder. It offers plenty of practical tips grounded in science and experience, while inviting you to have fun.

Whether you’re a leader, manager, employee or entrepreneur, 35 Smart Choices will help you bring out the best in yourself and others, even in the trickiest of situations. You’ll be able to use this knowledge wherever you work – in a traditional office, coworking space, home office, cafe, or on the road.

Reading this book will equip you to overcome mental blocks, find your focus and tap into your flow. You’ll learn to communicate more effectively and build stronger work relationships. You’ll be able to create more value while preserving your energy and sanity. And you’ll have what it takes to help others achieve the same.

It’s in your power to swing the pendulum from struggling to thriving at work. Master this power – and use it well!

35 Smart Choices is also available at major online book retailers worldwide – including Amazon, AbeBooks, Barnes & Noble, Book Depository and Booktopia.

35 Smart Choices is a highly engaging and incredibly timely guide to being our best selves at work – wherever and whenever that may be. However timely, the book is not a superficial attempt to ride the post-pandemic ‘hybrid work’ media wave. Anetta’s meticulous research started well before 2020, and as a result presents a well-rounded and grounded approach to building impactful work practices. With her second book Anetta has found her author’s voice and even though most of the content was familiar to me as an expert reviewer, her style is highly engaging and pulls together a lot of threads in one easy-to-digest handbook. I enjoyed the analogous stories and found many takeaways as both a business leader and team member. 35 Smart Choices will definitely be on the bookshelf of all my team!

Rarely do we consciously stop and think about how we work. We roll from deadline to deadline, email to email, without stopping to think, ‘How can we do this better?’ Anetta Pizag’s book is timely. At a point in time where work is being turned on its head, more than ever we need to stop, reflect and change.
35 Smart Choices is your perfect guidebook through this journey. Anetta has assembled a helpful list of little things that you can do to make a big difference in your work and in your life. I enjoyed the writing style; it’s easy to access and well-illustrated with entertaining life examples. Read it, act on it, and share it with your colleagues.

Powerful, practical, heartfelt advice to find your flow. Anetta beautifully blends science and practical advice in very human ways. The topics are timely given the disruption to our pre-pandemic routines and are a perfect guide to help navigate a new path to more authentic ways of working. Read through it from cover to cover for some thought-provoking advice or dip into it when you feel stuck or need some inspiration. The style is both refreshingly engaging and conversational. You’ll feel like you are talking to a friend rather than reading a book.

Every once in a while, a publication crosses your desk that actually hits the mark like a bullseye, resonates greatly and offers something actionable and meaningful. 35 Smart Choices is one such book, and I just can’t put it down … You’ve only got to read the contents pages to grasp just how relevant this book is right now, with topics that cover all aspects of the remote working challenge, to mental health, productivity, connectivity, adequate breaks, virtual meetings, motivation, energy and creative inspiration. It’s riveting reading. There’s been plenty of commentary and insights around many of these topics over the past two years, but until now, I haven’t seen them addressed in such a concise and approachable manner. It’s akin to a ‘workplace bible’ for all to gain from.

Reading 35 Smart Choices felt as if I was sitting in a comfortable armchair next to the author. Anetta writes with astonishing honesty and clarity. At times it was as if she was holding up a mirror saying, ‘Your emotions and experiences are valid. How can I help? Here are some choices, now what is the next best step?’ … Anetta lit a spark. I’m now excited by the possibility of further enhancing my work patterns. An overwhelming amount of science and psychology-based data has been distilled into useful and clever tips. 35 Smart Choices is also riddled with humorous and sometimes painful anecdotes. Not only captivating and mobilising, this book is a treasure chest of informative and inspiring resources.

There are few authors who put as much thought and attention into their books as Anetta Pizag, and 35 Smart Choices is no different. A powerful book for the times we find ourselves living in, now that we are rethinking so much, especially around how we work. 35 Smart Choices is thought-provoking and practical, and the ideal read for anyone who knows they could do what they do so much easier and with much less stress, if they were simply shown a better path. That’s exactly what Anetta does.

If you ever wondered what the term ‘work smarter and not harder’ really means and how to master this mantra, 35 Smart Choices is for you. I thoroughly enjoyed Anetta’s engaging narration, which at times felt like being in conversation with an older sister … As a full-time working mother, it is very easy to step into the trap of always delivering and being available. 35 Smart Choices makes it very clear though, that focused rest is just as important as focused work. I look forward to saying ‘no’ more often from now on, which really means saying ‘yes’ to things that matter to me. As a team leader, I also enjoyed the suggested team activities, enabling me to share 35 Smart Choices with my colleagues – allowing us as a team to strive for greater performance and happiness.

35 Smart Choices is observant, provocative and compelling. Anetta Pizag offers an in-depth framework for moving individuals and teams from a detached criteria of productivity to the creation of value. The text is incredibly useful for overcoming blockages in performance and developing greater strength and resilience. The book lays out its thesis with a mix of applied research and storytelling, and Anetta’s self-deprecating, humorous and intelligent style lends itself well to building rapport between reader and writer. Anetta recognises the critical contribution of emotional states, health and energy flow towards personal performance and interpersonal relationships, and without descending to the language of ‘self-help’ books, offers realistic strategies to redirect them to advantage.

With any book that promises lots of rich food for thought, I like to start with the ‘menu’ (aka table of contents). I found a couple of Choices – chapters – that had been playing at the fringes of my thinking, like #25 about music and #6 on taking breaks. Anetta provided great information, not token advice, and now I feel smarter because I’m making informed choices that work for my unique work style. Thanks Anetta for helping me become the master of my precious resources of time, attention and energy!

Create a Thriving Workspace

7 essential design principles for positive high-performance physical work environments

What is a thriving workspace?

Different people give different answers:

  • Business leaders say it enhances productivity and communication.
  • Marketing experts say it reflects the organisation’s values and brand.
  • Health professionals say it’s healthy and ergonomic.
  • Designers say it boosts creativity and innovative thinking.
  • Psychologists say it inspires people and makes them feel valued.
  • Psychologists say it inspires people and makes them feel valued.

In fact, a thriving workspace is all of these and much more!

Research shows that the space around us shapes how we think, feel and act, and can help us realise our full potential. Countless examples testify that companies with well-designed workspaces achieve significant returns through enhanced individual, team and business results.

Unfortunately, many workplaces are dysfunctional, unpleasant and unhealthy, wasting people’s talents. Businesses pay a high price for this, losing money, clients and credibility. Creating excellent working conditions is often seen as a luxury, while those who are ready to give it a go often struggle to find the right advice.

Create a Thriving Workspace speaks to business owners and decision makers who would like to make work a more fulfilling, rewarding and profitable experience in a positive, high-performance environment. This book is also a resource for anyone who wants to create a better work environment for themselves, their teams or their clients – whether they are looking into improving a current workspace or planning a relocation.

In this book, you will be guided through a simple framework and a comprehensive range of practical and powerful design solutions.

Create a thriving workspace, and watch your people dive into work with a smile on their face while your business grows its competitive edge.

I just love this book. I think Anetta Pizag really knows about creating thriving workspaces, but more importantly, she is extremely passionate about helping others to do the same. There is a great framework to follow, practical advice, plenty of detail to explain the reasons for her recommendations and great examples throughout the entire book. If you want to create a thriving workspace – I strongly suggest that you buy Anetta’s book and heed her advice.

As a professional organisational change management practitioner, I believe behaviour is a function of environment. So it was with great enthusiasm that I purchased Anetta’s book to access her knowledge about improving the physical environment of workplace for human-centric reasons. Whether talking about desk arrangements, lighting or plants, there is an often invisible connection to real workplace issues about the quality of productivity, well being and trust. Anetta draws together research findings, people’s experiences, and personal insights as a workplace design consultant, to present practical and sensible advice about making workspace change. Laid out as seven principles, her advice is sprinkled with real examples. It is a book to inspire meaningful change and to reference for strategies to implement. A worthy addition to any change agent or leader’s professional toolkit.

A unique blend of up to date research, case studies and storytelling, Anetta has written a fantastic guide for anyone looking to build a new workplace, or transform an existing one into a place that your team will be proud to work from and be productive in. It isn’t often you find a practical book that is both informative, easy to read but also has you reflecting on your own work environmental experiences. I found myself reaching for a notepad and pen throughout the book, as it is full of gems of wisdom. There are plenty of books detailing fanciful and extravagant workspace design. Anetta has produced a guide that is accessible and down to earth. A refreshing and insightful read.

A practical and inspiring guide that opens up new opportunities for workplaces of various sizes to build and transform themselves. Anetta shows how we can reflect the business values through the space where it operates and in doing so help inspire staff as well as brand strength. Great read for big and small businesses!

Excellent!

Excellent!

Excellent!

An excellent book! I only wish I had this years earlier. The best part is: you don’t have to read it all. Just pick the section that is of most interest and start immediately there. It’s easy to understand, very practical and it delivers so much more than ‘just about work spaces’. Especially the bridge between [A] workspace design (where to start, even when you’ve never done this before) and [B] measuring success (improved sales and profits, completed projects, improved reputation and customer satisfaction as well as – of course – staff happiness) is explained very well. Pages 324 illustrated this nicely. I also found the author’s blog very helpful, it adds extra value to the book. Highly recommend to corporates and especially all firms who care about their customers and employees.

In an age of constant change within the workspace, Pizag presents a truly outstanding book on how to create a thriving ‘live’ office environment. Her insights around workspace design are refreshing and applicable to all business sizes. The beauty of this approach is that it can be applied to home living too. The three major daily stressors on a person are physical, chemical and mental/emotional. This book is a step in the right direction to drastically minimize those stressors in the workplace, which is where I contend that most people will spend a significant portion of their time in life. Thumbs up from me.

From the first chapter, this book had my attention and interest. As a small business owner, I thought this may be only for large companies with large offices, but I found practical things that I could implement immediately. I think that Anetta’s unique blend of skills and experience are what make this book so different and so valuable. I would never have thought that how our offices were designed could give us a competitive edge, but after reading Anetta’s book, I know that this is possible.

It’s rare to find a book that is both incredibly well researched and also immediately practical. This will sit in my library as the kind of guide I will go back to again and again for guidance in creating the right physical work environment. Highly recommended.
